Basketball

On the 25th of March 2017, I had the great pleasure of shooting at a basketball game.

It was my first hired shoot and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a fast paced action packed game. I was tasked with following young J (luckily he was wearing bright red shoes) around the court and getting pictures of him in the action.

I took along my 28-80mm and 100-300mm lenses, 2 sd cards and of course my camera.

I managed to get some great photos with my 100-300mm lens capturing a good amount of light and focus in most of the pictures. I think the hardest thing with this lens was getting context as it was quite zoomed in and needed a minimum of 2m to focus on the subject.

Because of this I decided to change to my 28-80mm lens which has a much wider angle and can therefore get more in the frame. Unfortunately because this lens had a wide angle it meant that changing focal lengths meant the light changed quite dramatically between the two extremes. As it is also a film lens, it doesn’t have an automatic focus option and so I was having to try and focus between shots, which when you’re shooting a fast paced game is not easy and so because of that and the light factor I wasn’t able to get many good shots with that lens.

I still managed to get quite a few good shots that came up quite good when I was editing. So all in all, I think I did a great job and learnt a lot, but most importantly I had fun too.

Soooo…

I’ve been wanting to make a name for myself in the photography world for quite a while now. I love taking pictures of just about everything, and I love learning new things too.

My favourite thing about photography is about being able to capture different moments. I love the way the light changes and how that affects different subjects. I just see so much beauty around me everyday and I feel like photography is my way of capturing that beauty. From a baby’s first smile to the sun shining through the leaves and making them glow. I like that things change everyday, but I like that things stay the same. I like watching the world go by through the viewfinder.
